Originally the Decibels formed in early '93. When Dean & Joe (who knew each other from back in the day when Joe was in The Kincaids and Dean was in the E-Types) called up Kevin (former E-Type drummer) to try to get a band together. Joe played Bass, Dean Guitar and Kevin drums. During this period the Decibels sounded like a more refined E-Types. Soon Joe started expressing an interest to move over to second guitar and get another bass player...but nothing really happened. This lasted tell about late '94.

At this time Joe got a Job and moved to San Francisco, which made it difficult to practice & play. So, Dean produced another venture, The X-Teens. The X-Teens where Brian Machado on Drums, Cory Vick on Guitar, Dean Seavers doing Guitar/Vocals & Tom Hutchinson doing Bass/Vocals. The Decibels and X-Teens originally co-existed. But the busier that the X-Teens got the less time Dean had for the Decibels. So, the Decibels just died off. The X-Teens where around tell about mid-'95 when they broke up.

In '96 Joe found some money left over in the band fund. So the former members decided to go into the studio and record some of their old song that never made it to tape. They had a great time recording and decided to take another stab at it. This time it was agreed to get another bass player and let Joe take 2nd guitar. Enter Brent. Dean Says "While he was growing up, he and I were never very close, (mostly because there's and 11 year age difference between us- which is no big deal now, but is when you're younger.) He knew about the E-Types and at family get togethers he'd tell me that he was writing songs and trying to start a band and stuff, but since he was a kid, I didn't think much of it. Eventually I agreed to listen to a demo tape he'd made on a cassette 4-track. It blew me away. By this time he was 17 or 18, and we needed a bass player, so I asked him if he wanted to join. You know the rest!"

About this time the Radio 7" was released. Which credits Brent although he did not record it. You see Brent joined in between recording the album and it's release the rest of the band thought it'd be fair to credit him. Shortly after "Radio" came out Kevin quit the band- he was never really into power pop, and after so many years of doing it he felt confined. So this leaves the Decibels drumerless. Dean called Brian to see if he was interested in joining and luckily he was. So the Decibels where back in business.

This lineup lasted through '96 & '97 where Create Action was recorded. But it was known even before Brent joined the band that he would be leaving on a two-year mission for church, at the end of '97. So the Decibels where once again in hunt of a bass player. This hunt soon ended when Bobby Jordan (from the Knockoffs, Go National ect.). A few mouths later Joe left due to other commitments. Joe was replaced by Cory Vick. The Decibels are now 3/4th of the X-Teens! This line up lasted about 6 or 8 months when White Christmas & You Make It Move was recorded. But Bobby was stretched thin due to the fact that he was in several different bands, and Dean had just become a father. So, it was decided to take a break and continue when Brent returned.

Brent returned in the December of '99, and Joe expressed an interest in returning. - The Decibels where back and better then ever in '00. In early '01 the Decibels released The BIG Sounds of the Decibels. The BIG Sounds of the Decibels was made possible by Stella's Dream. Our cover was painted by our friend and Italian pop artist god, Luca Tieri. The music was inspired by Lisa, Michela, and Paolo - our Italian siblings!!!

2003 saw the release of The Bart Thurber Sessions. This is a compilation of the material that the band recorded with San Francisco pop/punk producer extraordinaire, Bart Thurber. Bart used to play in seminal San Francisco mod pop group Start! He has engineered and produced many great bands since then and we are fortunate to have been able to work with him…The release was made possible courtesy of 1977/Egging Records in Japan. Nobu Yaita and Naoki Kato co-run the label. They organized and promoted our 2003 tour of Japan. It was a wonderful experience. We were able to see firsthand the fantastic pop punk scene there. Since our return, we have made a video, written music, and slowly have been recording....and that brings us up to now. More to come!!!.
